Garbage Plates- What they are and why they are so good.

Published by skiweaver9 under Uncategorized Edit This

I have lived in Rochester my entire life. One thing that Rochester offers that I think no other place does- is a garbage plate. What is a garbage plate? Well to put it simple, it is heavenly goodness on a plate.

Garbage plates consist of a bunch of different foods placed on top of each other in one styrofoam box, for you to either eat at the restaurant or take home with you. A typical garbage plate would have the following:

2 Cheeseburgers (no bun), macaroni salad, and home fries, covered with mustard, raw onions and hot sauce. You also get 3 pieces of italian bread and butter on the side. It may sound gross (or gluttenous), but I have yet to meet one person who doesn’t like a garbage plate. I know a few people who have moved out of state, and when they come back to visit the first place they go is to a ‘hots’ shop to get one of these bad boys.  You can mix up the garbage plate however you want it, hot dogs, french fries, extra hot sauce, no hot sauce…anything your heart desires. Garbage plates are typically eaten from 2am-5am, after people go to the bars since they are open all night. The grease in the plates tend to ’settle’ your stomach, which will curb off a hangover the next day.

The one bad thing about garbage plates though is that they are loaded with calories. But then again, after a night of drinking….who cares!?
